The winery is run today by Piernicola Leone de Castris, but its history dates back to 1665, the year it was founded. The first bottling plant in Pugliawas actually launched by Leone de Castris in 1925, and in 1943 the wineryachieved another important first whenit created "Five Roses", the first Italian rosé usingNegroamaro, which helped to introduce this varietyto the rest of the world. Negroamaro, Malvasia, Bianco d’Alessano and Aleatico are among the main grape varieties used to make wines, sparkling wines and a grape-based aquavit. The imposing winerybuilding has a very old wine cellar with high arched ceilings and a well-equipped wine-tasting room.
