Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva DOCG, one of the four Puglia DOCGs introduced in 2011, comprises more or less the same area as the Castel del Monte DOP. Its wine must contain at least 65% Nero di Troia, all grown in vineyards belonging to wineries within the denomination. The wine must be matured a minimum of two years, with at least one in large oak ovals. The DOCG production code specifically cites the long tradition of age-worthy Castel del Monte red wines, made largely from Nero di Troia and aged in oak.
